In the past, it has been an eating establishment and a dance studio. The inside of the building was completely gutted down to the original brick walls. The outside of the building was stripped down, preserving as much of the original brickwork as was possible. Some bricks were too damaged to salvage, and they were replaced with bricks that kept to the original design. The interior was “backdated” with a tin ceiling and hardwood floors throughout. All the work was done by Lucas Construction—Gary and their son Mike, as well as other employees. The remodeling was completed in the spring of 2007 and Homespun Gallery opened for business in June 2007. The store offers furniture, floor coverings, and accessories and collectibles along the primitive and country decorating lines. |

The finished product of Homespun Gallery has added to the feel and atmosphere Washington Square is striving for—the way it looked when our town was first established in the late 1800’s. And it’s a wonderful addition to the neighborhood’s beauty and our community pride. Congratulations Gary and Elaine Lucas and all of the employees of Homespun Gallery for receiving the 2008 Beautification Award!! |
